'A Medical Monoculture or the blooming of 1000 Flowers? Increasing access to psychedelic medicines'
Director of psychedelic policy and regulation at the Centre for Evidence Based Drug Policy (CEBDP), co-founder and policy director at the Psilocybin Access Rights (PAR) campaign, founder of The Psychedelic Experience Clinic and a trainee at the Site for Contemporary Psychoanalysis.
A number of psychedelic medicines are in late stage clinical trials leading many to ask the question of what happens when these drugs reach market. Who will get access and how? Are our current infrastructures adequately prepared to deliver psychedelic medicines? By reflecting on the nature of these interventions, scrutinising current routes of access to mental health treatments, looking at how access is regulated abroad and provided underground, and by taking lessons from the history of regulatory changes in access to medicines such as cannabis, this talk will explore a provisional model of access which reduces risks and maximises benefits for patients and clinicians. Two interventions required to achieve it will be presented.
